These ten enchanting getaways around the PNW will take you high into the mountains, along scenic shorelines, and into some of the region’s top wine and foodie destinations.
Cannon Beach, Oregon
Cannon Beach may just be the top couples getaway in the entire Pacific Northwest. Especially as the season transitions into fall and the days start to grow blustery.
Spend the days in Cannon Beach, walking the coastline looking for hidden treasures uncovered by the ocean, tide-pooling during the region’s infamous fall low tides, and enjoying a latte or tea at Sleepy Monk Coffee.
San Juan Islands, Washington

The San Juan Islands can take a little bit of work to get to, but once you’re there, you’ll feel like you’ve been whisked away to another world. The routine of island life quickly settles in, and days are spent watching for passing whales, enjoying local seafood, and hiking on the island’s many trails.
If you get lucky with a glassy, calm fall day, rent some kayaks and head out to explore the secluded bays that circle the islands.
Willamette Valley, Oregon

The Willamette Valley comes alive during the fall as harvest season gets into full swing. The wineries will be a beehive of activity as workers get the grapes off the vine and into fermentation vats to start producing another vintage of the world-class wines that are produced here.
McMinnville makes a perfect basecamp, with numerous boutique hotels, like The Atticus, catering to couples coming to the area for a weekend of wining and dining.
Leavenworth, Washington
If you’re looking for a weekend filled with stunning hikes and fall colors, then it is hard to beat a getaway to Leavenworth. This Bavarian-themed town high in the Washington cascades serves as the perfect base camp for exploring the nearby Enchantments Wilderness.

Only an hour from Portland, Hood River is the perfect short weekend getaway for folks looking to get out of the city. With charming bakeries and breakfast spots like Broder Øst, the mornings can be spent wandering downtown Hood River and enjoying the sunny side of the mountains.
If you’re feeling like getting outside, then the trails and waterfalls of the gorge are just minutes away.
The best of the area is saved for last, as fall in Hood River means harvest season at the area’s many apple and pear orchards. Here, you can pack a picnic and head out to pick a bushel or two of apples right off the trees. You may just find yourself never wanting to buy a store-bought apple again!
Whidbey Island, Washington
A short ferry ride or slightly longer drive over the stunning Deception Pass separates the tranquil world of Whidbey Island from nearby Seattle.
This is the perfect place to rent an oceanfront cabin or settle into island life in one of the island’s numerous charming towns. We love Coupeville for its charming waterfront and Langley for its artsy vibe.
Astoria, Oregon
Astoria is the oldest city in Oregon and its history is on full display within its compact downtown. The city’s waterfront was once lined with canneries but many of these buildings have no been restored and serve as restaurants, shops, and hotels.
The Bowline Hotel is a perfect example of this with waterfront rooms that stand on pilings so you can hear the waves and occasional sealion directly underneath you. Good thing they provide free earplugs!
Don’t miss a relaxing walk along the waterfront, followed by a latte from Coffee Girl on Pier 39.
Another fun activity is to head uphill to the Astoria Column, where you can throw balsawood gliders from the top and watch them drift away in the wind.
Olympic National Park, Washington
There is perhaps no better place to head for the storm-watching season than the coast of the Olympic Peninsula. Here, storms from the mighty Pacific Ocean can charge uninterrupted toward the rugged coastline, where the waves explode with truly impressive velocity.
So grab a blanket and your favorite cup of coffee and prepare to snuggle up for a wild weekend.
Walla Walla, Washington
What better way to spend a couple’s weekend away than in the wine country of Eastern Washington? Walla Walla has redeveloped itself from a farming town (this is still very much on display during onion harvest season) to a wine destination.
You can spend the day wandering between downtown tasting rooms or head out into the rolling hills surrounding the town to taste directly at the wineries.
Bend, Oregon
Bend is the perfect weekend getaway for couples looking to get outside and hit the trails or the water. The Deschutes River runs right through downtown, so you can spend the afternoon floating or paddleboarding.
